PLANT MEDICINE INTEGRATION
Plant medicines or Psychedelic Therapies such as Ayahuasca, MDMA, Ketamine, Psilocybin, Ibogaine and Peyote have experienced a marked renaissance in the West, as growing clinical and public interest turns toward their potential for deep healing and psychospiritual growth.
In the right context, these substances may support profound insight, broadened perspective and deeper compassion — but the evidence is consistent that outcomes depend heavily on non-drug factors: careful screening, appropriate set and setting, and structured integration both before and after the experience.
Temple Door does not facilitate the use of these plant medicines outside of a legal or traditional framework. Our role is specifically the pre- and post-integration support that surrounds these experiences for those accessing them through legally sanctioned or traditional settings — a scope of practice we hold deliberately and consistently.
Pre-Plant Integration sessions run for around 60 minutes and are designed to support a client's readiness across mental, emotional, spiritual and physical domains, ideally over 3 sessions. This includes dietary guidance relevant to the substance in question, clarification of intention, and open exploration of fears or resistance likely to surface — work grounded in trauma-informed and somatic practice rather than directive advice. Sessions also cover practical grounding and self-regulation techniques a client can draw on both during the experience and in the vulnerable window that follows it and can also provide herbal supplements to prepare the body and nervous system appropriately taking into account evidence based practise and clinical safety.
Post-Plant Integration sessions also run for 60 minutes and are held with the compassionate, non-directive presence considered foundational to this work — listening without imposing interpretation on what the client has experienced. Drawing on talk therapy and somatic experiencing, sessions support clients to process and make sense of their experience, surface the meaning held within difficult or challenging material, and identify patterns that no longer serve them. Ongoing support focuses on translating insight into sustained behavioural and lifestyle change, with onward referral to appropriate medical or psychological care where indicated, and nurturing the client's continuing connection to nature and to themselves as well as supporting herbal protocols to balance the body, neural pathways and nervous system.
